All I Want For Christmas Is Baby Sleep

Some Ideas To Get You To Sleep During The Holidays

The holiday’s can be stressful on their own, but when your baby won’t sleep, it can be overwhelming and exhausting.

Adding travel and extended family usually can increase the stress to our lives and, of course, your baby will pick up on this. It may even keep your baby from sleeping.

Here are a few tips to help you get your baby to sleep during this holiday season.

Hold On Your Routines

When the holidays roll around, we are often asked to travel a lot and sleep in new places that we visit. These frequent trips put our existing progress towards a sleeping baby at risk and can confuse their schedule to the point where we end up waking frequently at night.

Babies like routine so as much as possible try to either ask people to come visit you, this is especially easy with a newborn, so use your opportunity now while you have the chance.

If you do travel, try to reproduce your home sleeping environment as much as possible. This may mean taking a portable crib like a Pack N Play with you. Also, portable white noise machines can be helpful to mask new sounds that may make your baby uncomfortable or afraid. Don’t forget to pack your child’s special sleep companion if he or she likes to sleep with a familiar blanket or other comfort object. You will regret not having it!

Follow A Sleep Training Program

Now may be the time to start implementing a sleep training program. It varies from baby to baby, but often times they are receptive. They may find the rhythm of a consistent schedule comforting during the busy activity and changes that occur around the holidays.

Ask For Help From Visiting Family

Since the holidays are often the time for family to visit, if you are expecting visitors, why not ask for some help for a night or two? If you have confidence in their parenting abilities, they can often be enlisted to spend a few hours with baby during the day to allow you to catch a nap or, if you’re lucky and they can be trusted you might be able to get relief for an entire night. Extra sleep can be helpful around the busy and stressful holidays.

Ask For Helpful Gifts

Since Christmas is a time for giving, why not ask for the gift of sleep for your baby? There are many products available that can assist you in getting your baby to sleep.

Sleep Sheep
made by Cloud b. I used this many times to provide white noise for our baby to sleep to. It also helps mask noise if that’s a problem for you. Another nice feature is that the sound device comes out and is small enough to travel with easily and the battery lasted for a long time.

Just Relax And Enjoy The Holidays

The most important thing that you can do this holiday is to just try and relax and enjoy with whatever your situation is.
